No Olive Oil? What Then?

No Olive Oil? What Then?

Hello Readers! Hope you are all doing well and your weekend was relaxing! Today, we are going to be discussing about olive oil. I always use olive oil in everything I cook. But today I learnt it is not wise to use it in everything. Isn’t that appalling? Who knew even the healthiest of things have a limit?

When to Use Olive Oil

Olive oil is good to use in salad dressings or if you are sautéing vegetables over medium heat. Since it has a very unique flavor, you can use it in dishes where you would like to taste it. For instance, drizzling it on your soup or bread is a great idea! Olive oil has heart healthy antioxidants and hence makes a great choice for heart-healthy cooking.

When to Skip Olive Oil

If you are cooking over high heat, do NOT use olive oil. It does more harm than good. Olive oil is said to have a lower “smoke point” when compared to other oils. Smoke point is basically the point at which oil literally begins to smoke. When you heat olive oil to its smoke point, all the good ingredients in olive oil start to degrade allowing them to have adverse effects on your body in the long run.

What Do you Use Then?

Canola Oil solves all your problems! It has a high smoke point and is a great healthy alternative to olive oil when cooking over high heat. It has a neutral flavor. It is also packed with healthy anti-oxidants. It is also great for baking! 🙂 Another advantage, its cost: much cheaper than olive oil. Its a clear winner guys! 😀
